Twistyle Muzik Announces "Singles Day"

Vredenburg's youngest underground Hip-Hop label, Twistyle Muzik, has recently had it's share of success as well in the rising stages of West Coast Hip Hop.

With more than 200 downloads online so far, the production scheme houses about 4 artists, namely Big Twist it's founder, AB, EM-K & the Lazy Catz duo Young F!ip & General, along with it's key producers.

It's artist debuts have seen some light, with AB & EM-K collectively earning 53 downloads. To further their walk in the music scene, the label has introduced it's own series entitled "Twistyle Singles Day" a 24 hour release period or brand new music from it's artists.

Last week, this proposition was confirmed as the underground label announced the return of both AB & EM-K with songs 'Dreamer' and 'Word Is Born'. In addition to this, the current top single 'Out 4 Da Kill' would be accompanied with a Kimberly Remix, the hometown of both it's founder, Big Twist & AB.

So far this release has been out for 4 months, and is Twist's second latest release, followed by 'Somewhere In The World'. With a 4 month lead the song has accumulated 72 downloads so far, the second highest after the later release, which currently peaks the labels list at 112 downloads at the moment on file sharing site 'Datafilehost'.

While the upcoming "Singles Day" becomes Twistyle's first effort in releasing a music series, it still has a few broken promises on it's social networks, namely various releases such as 'You & I'. This however is understandable as the label proves to be hard at work representing the West Coast on stages around the Cape. The date anticipated is therefore yet to be announced, but with eagerness the label guarantees it's supporters that it shall provide what is expected.

5 Killer Remakes In West Coast Hip-Hop

With various Hip-Hop & RnB favorites, comes the ability to rap to them. While artists are influenced to do such, some get it right and even better the release, while the rest might just be wishful thinking.

Here's our list of Killer Remakes in the West Coast, rated according to popularity, content and uniqueness of the artist or scheme.

5. So Sick
Envor of Legacii
Remake of Ne-Yo

The vocal tones of Envor grabbed the West Coast's attention when this R&B remake of Ne-Yo by Vredenburg's Legacii Music Group was released.

With record production by Bary D, Leagcii's leading producer, the cover version not only sounds vocally good, but also is almost a like with the original song. This unique debut and talent displayed earns 'So Sick' the #5 spot in our list of Killer Remakes, as the local rap group, proves itself to be more than just a few lines & rhymes.

4. Underground Kings
Tha Real U featuring Young Tyt
Remake of Drake

While #4 might seem as an understatement for this song given that it became the West Coast's very first song to top 100 downloads in 24 hours, this record breaking lead for Saint Helena Bay rapper Tha Real U, simply faces tough competition in this list of Killers.

While Consciously raising the bar in the Weskus, Real U aggressively tackles the third verse of this song, one that could even be considered controversial. With various issues in Hip-Hop brought to light, the Shaloma Muzik artist makes references to a Biblical perspective and evidently hits listeners hard with a message of Christian awareness through self expression.

As a Conscious Hip Hop release, one should focus on the content which itself ranges from various issues based on the identity of Hip-Hop listeners  supporters and artists. Real U challenges the listeners perspective and is joined by rapper Young Tyt (formerly known as TiTan Kai) from the Johannesburg Christian Hip-Hop group, UNiQUE.

This long distance collaboration not only brings the West Coast together with Gauteng, but promotes our local releases in various regions of the land, even if it is one song.

The success here of follows Real U's first 100 download milestone for 'That I'm Dreaming' and has since raised the rappers influence in the Hip-Hop community.

3. Ransom
Jempas featuring Tha Real U
Remake of Drake

With a chart topping debut, a featured music video and 136 downloads so far since it's release in August, Shaloma Muzik artist grabs #3 with 'Ransom'. The lyrics in the song, pretty much prove it all, as Jemp reflects on his life, making use of a popular sound to speak reality in retrospective. He is joined by Real U, who adds a certain funk to the song before the ending in support of Jempas' debuting heist.

While the song has peaked the Top 10  & charted for 3 days in the Top 20 spots in the South African local music website KasiMp3, it's music video currently sits on 120 views on YouTube, and has a hoisted the flag high for the Weskus on an national level - proving that Jempas is surely an artists that's here to stay.

2. Somewhere In The World
Big Twist
Remake of 'Somewhere In America' by Jay-Z

Although Ill Scripts & Twistyle Muzik artist Big Twist, both served the coast with a much loved remake of this song, the #2 spot has to go to Big Twist hands down.

In 'Somewhere In The World' Twist not only stepped up lyrically invigorating a degree of Conscious Hip-Hop in his music, but also kept it well production wise, with a distinct feature of chanting the well known 'Msheli Wami.'

1. Motivation
Major & Bizzy
Remake of Kelly Rowland

While the Langas top Hip-Hop group, Wolwe also known as Wolf Pack, have had better songs, 'Motivation' defiantly comes as a stand out.

Teen rapper Major, colabs with the West Coast's favorite Bizzy, on this local Afrikaans treffer, taking a RnB release from the Billboards straight to Kasi and turning it into something great and enjoyable for both International Music fanatics and Afrikaans speaking audiences. And after all Wolve have done, why not #1?

The favorable flavor of the Wolf Pack remains. The song was followed up by 'Bed*nerd In My Kop'  and 'In My Zone' and has accumulated 47 downloads on mobile website, Die Kaapstad, so far through which it is also featured on SwagCity.

War3 Karakt3z Release New Series & Music Videos

War3 Karakt3z’s avatarVredenburg's legendary War3 Karakt3z recently hit the web with two brand new music videos in support of their latest series 'Liefde of Jokes'.

The group founded by Goku who also forms part of the Major Playaz Dancerz along with various members, has accumulated 360 downloads on Soundcloud in record so far, with 'We Made It' (Ft. Big Twist, Ivaan & Lazy Bpeaking at 43 downloads.

With various music videos by it's producer Goku and other members of the group, rappers Ivaan, Lazy B, Maikes, Ponkie, Vicky and Gax have collaborated on various songs, namely with one of their latest 'Let Me Love You Alright'.

Following their album 'Bruin Boks', comes the newly released 'Liefde of Jokes' along with Goku's very own 'Bloed Maan' which features appearances by artists Young Bliss, Wizel & Lionel Koordom.

Collectively these two projects have blossomed with stand out tracks such as 'Teenage Pregnancy' and 'Ek Sal Altyd Down Vijo Wees' receiving the most downloads on Soundcloud so far, after last month's 'Die Is Dai Love Song' which takes the cake within this series peaking at 22 downloads so far.

The song was therefore followed up with a music video, in addition to Goku's own 'Goku Ain't No Wana Be' which debuted as a music video before the actual song release online, in order to build anticipation of the concluding stages of the 'Bloed Maan' series. The music video is shot in their home region of Louwville as Goku appears walking along the railway line, a picture perfect scenery for an emotional music video. The video has accumulated 36 views on YouTube so far, the highest of the latest releases with 'Let Me Love You Alright' and 'Die Is Dai Love Song' trailing at 24 views each.

The groups most viewed video remains to be their hit song 'Wie Sal' on 209 views after it's release 9 months ago.

'I Am West Coast Hip-Hop' Initiative Releases Smartphone Application

An initiative started to help promote the local Hip-Hop scene has now grown into a more reliable source of entertainment, but will this improve its success? The question stands.

Branded as 'I Am West Coast Hip-Hop', this initiative is something some might already be familiar with. With it's establishment earlier this year on Facebook, the promotional efforts of this brand has accumulated 93 likes on Facebook so far, extending it's roots to Twitter to ensure a greater public reception.

So far the likes of War3 Karakt3z, Legacii, Big Twist, Ill Scripts, BALLERGANG & Tha Real U have risen to acclaim in this scene with constant mention on it's social networks. The initiative aims to help build and improve the South African West Coast Hip-Hop platform and has seen various newcomers such as EM-K, Wild Boys, AB, Lazy Cats & WBMG receive their much deserved attention as well. With arrangements such as a collaborative show known as 'West Coast Hip-Hop Night' proposed on the 1st of June this year and the 'I Am West Coast Hip-Hop Radio Show' on local community station, Radio West Coast (93.2fm), the initiative has grown to invest more and more in developing it's artistry. Theses attempts however have proven to be unsuccessful, but might improve as new plans are rolled out.

The latest plan from this initiative is the 'I Am West Coast Hip-Hop BlackBerry Application' known as 'Weskus Hip-Hop by SwagCity' on BlackBerry App World. While this application was developed by it's sister project, SwagCity, a mobile music website established for the same purpose, the partnership in this smart-phone application could prove to be one worthy of recognition.
The announcement for this plan was made two months ago in August, as SwagCity later shut down for maintenance to relaunch it's services on September 24th. The relaunch would include the application apart from the changes made on the music website. However part of this plan was later postponed due to pending status of both the vendor registration and application release by BlackBerry's Developer division.

The application finally hit the Research In Motion's smartphone online store this week with an announcement made on Saturday the 19th of October. Features from this app include, content from the West Coast Hip-Hop initiative's Facebook page, articles from two of West Coast Hip-Hop's media sources, Startouch Magazine and Lyrics & Truth, and the Top 20 newest releases from the West Coast on partner mobile website, SwagCity.

Saldanha Bay Rappers Have Bigger Plans

In case you haven't heard of WBMG, lets take this time to introduce them to you. Rappers Hentaz, Cido, MadDogg & Yung Aiaya are the next big thing in Diazville. Together this collective of teen swagstars form the WBMG. While they might be quiet to the online scene, they've been around town to town doing shows in anticipation of their mixtape releasing later this year.

A few weeks ago, this announcement was made prompt by of the group's leading men Yung Aiaya, who revealed the title as 'Friday The 13th'. While the group only has two songs online, their debut with 'You To Fine To Be Alone' accumulated 11 straight downloads and 14 plays after a year of release. Okay, that's nothing to brag about but anyway...

Whist every name progressing in Saldanha Hip-Hop seems to be a teenager, the current heavyweights Ill Scripts have confirmed the rumors of their proposed mixtape as well. Rapper, INSANE mentions that the supposed 'Cloud 9' mixtape (which we assume will obviously have another name) is scheduled to release by the end of the final school term, this being the month of November & December.

The mixtape is said to be a compilation of all Ill Scripts latest releases and could feature some interesting things from the Fantasy Productions team. Included will be new unheard releases, but we can already point out the fact that majority of these will be remade cover versions such as their latest release 'All Me' by OVO Sound & Young Money rapper, Drake.

Currently the Scripts have six releases out and about, five of which are on KasiMp3. In total the group achieved 809 downloads on KasiMp3 alone, minus the 135 for rapper Junio A!'s 'Light Up Freestyle' alone (therefore a total of 674), with their June comeback release 'Cast My Eyes' peaking at 236 downloads. The group currently holds the Most Downloads In A Day record for the West Coast with 101 downloads in 17 hours and is the most downloaded group within the South African West Coast Hip-Hop music scene, after their local brothers, BALLERGANG, a group of which INSANE also belongs to.
